About The Position

The primary purpose of the position is to enforce the Uniform Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act of North Carolina, the North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC Title 13, Chapter 13) and associated technical codes and standards, that the Act incorporates by-reference and which govern the design, fabrication, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of boilers and pressure vessels in both conventional and nuclear usage. To accomplish this, the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspector (Inspector) will conduct inspections and carry out investigations, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be familiar with existing rules and regulations pertaining to boilers and pressure vessels
  • Must be knowledgeable in their application
  • Be familiar with the fabrication and design of all types of boiler and pressure vessel construction, and have the ability to ensure that they meet the requirements of established codes and standards
  • Possess the ability to comprehend complex technical data and documentation
  • Work independently to plan and schedule work so as to meet assigned or promised commitments
  • Make technical decisions with limited supervision
  • Possess the ability to establish rapport with the public to achieve cooperation and voluntary code compliance and must have a good command of the English language and the ability to express thoughts, ideas and information adequately, both orally and in writing
  • Position requires considerable Walking, climbing, bending, stooping and twisting
  • Valid license will be required
  • Applicant must reside in Buncombe County or adjacent county w/in 90 days of hiring
  • High school or a General Equivalent Development (GED) diploma; and four years of experience in the construction, installation, operation, or maintenance of boilers and pressure vessels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must obtain two certifications within the first 9 months of employment by passing the required examinations per NC General Statute, Chapter 95 Article 7A, 95-69.15, and NC Uniform Boiler and Pressure Vessel Administrative Rules 13 NCAC 13 .0202 & .0203.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
