About The Position

The Deputy Boiler Inspector is selected by and responsible to the Chief Boiler Inspector and performs complex boiler inspection work for the Boiler Program to ensure compliance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Board Inspection Code, and the Texas Boiler Law and Rules. This position involves scheduling, conducting, and documenting in-service boiler inspections and re-inspections, recommending and verifying corrective actions for non-compliance, providing technical assistance, disseminating information, and performing other duties as needed to maintain operations. The work is performed under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment in carrying out inspection activities. The position will be home-based and requires the inspector to live in the East Texas area. Essential duties include inspecting boiler units daily for compliance with codes, the Texas Boiler Law and Rules, and national standards; preparing and submitting inspection data as required using prescribed forms; documenting violations and monitoring the status of non-compliance; conducting follow-up inspections to verify that owners perform corrective actions of existing violations, ensuring public safety in accordance with the Texas Boiler Law and Rules and applicable national standards. The inspector will also make recommendations to upper management for variances, perform routine accident investigations, conduct training for public associations, and disseminate information regarding the Boiler Program. Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with the regulated industry, inspection agencies, fire marshals, and other local officials is also a key responsibility. In addition to the above, the Inspector II will document violations and monitor the status of non-compliance, verify that owners perform corrective actions, oversee and conduct routine accident investigations, authorize repairs and alterations to boilers and pressure vessels, and provide technical guidance to TDLR staff, building and facility owners, and inspectors. The role requires a strong understanding of the Texas Boiler laws, regulations, rules, and codes relating to the use, construction, installation, and repair of boilers and pressure vessels, as well as the ability to supervise the work of others and extensive knowledge of the boiler law and rules.
