Join the GE Appliances team in the heart of the GEA campus at the Boiler House facility, which is critical to the business’ core manufacturing infrastructure. We are looking to hire one (1) Boiler Operator to support business-wide operations during 2nd shift hours. Our operators ensure electricity, city water, compressed air, boiler generated steam, wastewater, and the other major utility processes run smoothly. It is an essential role which provides the foundation for all Appliance Park factories to run according to plan. The position is represented by the SEIU.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or GED equivalent and Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with air compressors, pumps and steam boilers within an industrial, construction or commercial environment
  • A valid and non-suspended drivers license.
  • Be able to trace down piping
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions under stressful situations using prior mechanical knowledge
  • Available to work planned OT and short-notice emergency call-ins including weekends and holidays, when necessary.
  • Ability to work alone or in a collaborative setting.
  • Proven ability to work with these factors: Perform work in a loud/noisy and non-climate-controlled environment (conditions may be hot or cold) Perform work outside in all weather conditions Change shifts and work overtime and weekends, as required Work with parts/equipment which may be hot, cold, and/or wet Perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation, including, but not limited to: Prolonged standing, frequently handling various parts for assembly, frequent walking, reaching at waist level, pushing/pulling, grasping/squeezing, pinching Have fine motor dexterity, neck flexion, and be able to use air tools Be able to reach overhead, reach at shoulder level, reach at knee and floor level Bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, crawling, ladder/stair climbing, pivoting, twisting, neck extension/rotation, shoulder circumduction, lying supine and using vibratory tools also required Handling and lifting of parts and/or equipment (lifting minimum of 50 lbs., carrying 40 lbs., and pushing/pulling, 75 lbs. required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating or maintaining steam boilers a strong plus
  • Familiarity with industrial waste treatment and high voltage switchgear preferred
  • A general positive disposition as well as a willingness to learn.
  • Solid work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily monitoring of medium voltage switch gear, air compressors, natural gas steam boilers, fire protection utilities, industrial waste treatment, and more. This includes the starting, running, and stopping of any and all associated equipment.
  • Switching 15KV switchgear
  • Perform maintenance on large underground and overhead valves in the form of typical valve manipulation.
  • Assist the maintenance team in troubleshooting equipment issues,
  • Conduct regular testing of the Park’s fire protection system.
  • Familiarization of operating procedures for all associated equipment.
  • Follow safe work practices and procedures to avoid injury to self and others as well as to prevent property damage through EHS implemented programs including required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), completion of annual training, and more.
  • Understand and follow environmental guidelines under Stormwater protection, spill prevention, HAZMAT disposal and more in the planning and execution of daily activities and longer-term projects.
  • Operate motorized equipment including fork trucks, valving machines, etc.
  • Follow proper housekeeping standards to ensure clean and organized workspaces.
