About The Position

This position will function in a "work from home" environment and will be located eastern Multnomah and northern Clackamas, Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam counties. The location of this position will be discussed at the interview and finalized when the job offer is made. Our mission... The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses. This position is with the Building Codes Division (BCD). BCD adopts and enforces the statewide building code relating to the construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of buildings and other structures and the installation of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical devices and equipment. This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union (AFSCME). Requirements

  • Possession of a National Board In-service Commission from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors OR Qualify to have National Board In-service Commission reinstated and be successful in reinstating the commission within six (6) months of hire OR Ability to obtain a National Board In-service Commission within six (6) months of hire
  • Obtaining the National Board In-service Commission requires passing a rigorous National Board exam AND having a minimum of five years accumulated education and experience in the boiler and pressure vessel equipment industry.
  • Education must be in fields such as engineering, technology, science, mathematics, or an accredited apprenticeship program as a boilermaker, steamfitter, or in nuclear reactors.
  • Experience must be in areas such as engineering, equipment fabrication methods or processes, operation of boiler(s) exceeding 50,000 lbs. of steam per hour total capacity, performance of repairs, alterations, or maintenance of boilers or pressure vessels, NDE examination of boiler and pressure vessels meeting ASNT Level II or III, or inspection of boilers or pressure vessels.
  • As a condition of continued employment, state inspectors are required to maintain active In-service Commissions by satisfying the annual continuing education requirements of NBBI as listed in the current publication of RCI-1, Rules for Commissioned Inspectors.
  • The successful candidate must pass the Boiler Inspector Competency Exam within 90 days of hire.
  • The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • This position is subject to a fingerprint background check for any convictions directly related to its duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • As a Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector, you will inspect boilers and pressure vessels and other types of strongly constructed closed vessels in the boiler industry for compliance with safety standards.
  • You will investigate safety issues, enforce regulations, stop unsafe operations and unsafe installations, and provide technical information.
