About The Position

The Body Shop Technician is responsible for the repair, restoration, and maintenance of semi-truck bodies and related components. This role requires expertise in diagnosing body damage, performing structural repairs, and ensuring that all work complies with industry standards and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training in automotive or truck body repair is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a body shop technician, especially with semi-trucks, is highly desirable.
  • Proven skills in body repair, painting, and component replacement.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong understanding of truck body construction and repair techniques.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair orders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to lift heavy parts, stand for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Must be comfortable with manual labor and potentially hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of semi-truck bodies to identify damage and issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools and techniques to determine the extent of repairs needed.
  • Perform repairs on truck frames and bodies, including straightening bent frames, welding metal components, and repairing or replacing damaged panels.
  • Repair and refinish truck bodies, including sanding, priming, painting, and detailing.
  • Ensure a smooth, professional finish that matches the original appearance or desired specifications.
  • Replace or repair various truck body parts such as doors, fenders, bumpers, mirrors, and lights.
  • Ensure all components are installed correctly and function properly.
  • Carry out routine maintenance checks to identify potential issues and prevent future damage.
  • Perform tasks such as cleaning and lubricating moving parts.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure that all repairs and modifications meet legal and safety standards.
  • Keep detailed records of all repair work, including parts used, labor hours, and any additional notes.
  • Ensure accurate documentation for billing and tracking purposes.
  • Communicate with customers to understand their repair needs and provide updates on the status of their trucks.
  • Address any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Work closely with other technicians and shop personnel to complete repair projects efficiently.
  • Share knowledge and assist colleagues as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels of parts and supplies.
  • Order necessary parts and ensure efficient use of materials.
