About The Position

ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCED TECHNICIANS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. Pay: Starting rate is $34.22 up to $39.92 SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Body Repair/Paint Technicians under general supervision repair all external parts, frame and structural parts, glass/windshield replacement, seat repair and replacement of Charlotte Area Transit buses and other vehicles. Includes exterior painting of buses and other vehicles. Includes mixing of various paints and related chemicals to achieve desired paint colors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years experience in the Body Repair and Paint field may be substituted by Diploma in Collision Repair Technology.
  • Diploma of Completion from an approved technical program in Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NC or SC CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Physical Card.
  • Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Ability to drive buses, trucks, non-revenue vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, kneel, stretch and lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must have own basic tool set.
  • Must be flexible to work any shift.
  • Must have an excellent attendance and performance record
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with paints, chemicals, commercial cleaners and toxic materials.
  • Must be able to work any shift, to include nights, holidays or weekends as shifts hours of work may vary based on seniority rights.
  • Must be able to work indoor/outdoor weather extremes. Includes working in open bay areas and inside and outside of buses.
  • As a safety-sensitive hourly employee, you will be required to have a Class A or B CDL with a Passenger Endorsement. If you do not have the CDL, you must obtain a CDL Permit with a Passenger Endorsement within 90 days of hire. Transit Management of Charlotte (TMOC) will assist with the completion of the remaining training to meet the requirements for the CDL. Additionally, TMOC requires all new hires in a safety sensitive role to receive a Department of Transportation (DOT) certification of at least 12 months (1 year).

Responsibilities

  • Repair all external parts, frame and structural parts, glass/windshield replacement, seat repair and replacement of CATS buses, and other vehicles.
  • Mix various paints and related chemicals to achieve desired paint colors for purpose of painting CATS buses and other vehicles.
  • Responsible for prep work for painting, collision and upholstery work.
  • Uses specific and various spray apparatus as aids in performance of duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Body Shop Foreman, Director of Maintenance, Superintendent or other Maintenance Managers.
