About The Position

The Role The Body Dimensional Engineer has responsibility for managing vehicle fit/finish based on key process metrics from customer feedback; GCA & A/B/C/FVS metrics. This job requires effective communication with production, maintenance, suppliers and shop committee. The work involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision making and is accompanied by a high level of independent judgment. What You’ll Do Create a highly engaged floor operations team. Promotes, educates, communicates and follows up on safety initiatives. Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills Support fast response and six pillars of quality process reviews. Support GCA, DRR, FTQ, DRL and CPIT problem resolution activities including sufficiency planning and ensure proper communication between internal and external stake holders. Execute 6 pillars of quality process and required process control plans to meet BIQ IV Provide day to day technical direction to the maintenance & production teams. Keep all metrology tooling – (including Leica Scanning, Vision, Laser Gage, Faro, checking fixtures, CTAC fixtures, Scan Box; Gap & Flush system etc.) in proper working order per specified standards to maintain PCP compliance and reduce measurement system error. Actively participate in plant dimensional team activities, set priorities and drive issue resolution Support documented quality check plan and supervise personnel to ensure compliance. Maintain a shim and process change log for all tooling. Ensure vision alarms are in place and functioning with corrective action and response plans when alarms are generated. Maintain Vision to CMM correlation. Maintain dimensional data flow (through the dimensional data manager) to ensure integral data is being displayed in appropriate sites (GDIS) and postings to Data Wall Communicate status to counterparts on following shifts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1–3 years of manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and datum strategies
  • Strong problem‑solving skills
  • Background in dimensional, manufacturing, statistical, or mechanical engineering
  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals
  • Willingness to work any shift, including weekends and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of metrology processes including scanning
  • Working knowledge of PolyWorks or equivalent metrology software
  • Experience with Perceptron, VRSI, or INOS Vision Systems
  • Tool design and/or toolmaker Journeyman
  • Experience using Team Center Visualization Mockup
  • Understanding of dimensional metrics (E31, A/B/C/FVS)
  • Knowledge of PQRS
  • Knowledge of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures, manufacturing processes, and management systems as they relate to production operations in a BIQ 4 plant
  • Knowledge of body shop and general assembly build strategies
  • Knowledge of BIW closures & fabrication processes
  • Knowledge of PFMEA
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited University
