Summary: The Boat Operator is responsible for the safe operation of company vessels used in research and development testing. This role partners closely with engineering teams to evaluate prototype and production marine components and systems, execute structured test plans, and support product validation activities. The position requires strong boating expertise, sound safety judgment, and a hands-on mechanical aptitude in both on-water and shop environments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a skilled boat operator
  • Completion of an approved boating safety course or equivalent certification
  • Strong knowledge of boat operation, navigation, and on-water safety procedures
  • Ability to follow structured processes, technical instructions, and safety protocols
  • Ability to work in variable weather and marine environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with boat and engine rigging
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use basic shop tools
  • Familiarity with marine electrical, mechanical, or propulsion systems
  • Prior experience supporting R&D, product testing, or marine engineering environments
  • Basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate test vessels to support R&D evaluation of prototype and production components, systems, and technologies
  • Execute detailed test plans and follow instructions provided by engineering and technical teams
  • Maintain full compliance with company safety policies, operating procedures, and maritime regulations
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and ensure vessel readiness prior to testing activities
  • Monitor vessel and system performance during testing and provide clear observations and feedback to engineering teams
  • Assist with troubleshooting, installation, and evaluation of marine components and systems during testing cycles
  • Support documentation of test activities, results, and operational findings
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, technicians, and operations staff
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment both on vessels and in shop settings
