Board Certified Perfusionist Facility: Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) – Department of Veterans Affairs Location: Minneapolis VA Medical Center, One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417 Full-time contract positions (3 FTEs total) with potential multi-year contract options Work Schedule & Shifts On-Site Coverage (Weekdays): Two perfusionists: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM One perfusionist: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (8-hour shifts, with additional time as needed until patient care is complete) On-Call Coverage: Required 7 days per week, 52 weeks per year. Weekday call: 3:00 PM – 6:30 AM Weekend call: Saturday 6:30 AM – Monday 6:30 AM Holiday call: 6:30 AM – 6:30 AM next day Must respond within 15 minutes by phone and report on-site within 60 minutes when called. Estimated workload: up to 240 hours per week, total on-site coverage plus approximately 6,600 on-call hours annually. Position Summary The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking Board Certified Perfusionists to provide comprehensive perfusion services in support of cardiac and cardiothoracic surgical procedures. Providers will deliver on-site clinical perfusion services and participate in on-call coverage to ensure 24/7 support for veteran patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Perfusion Technology program
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience in cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Experience with open-heart surgery, ECMO, VAD, and related procedures
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Eligible for VA credentialing and privileging

Responsibilities

  • Operate heart-lung machines and provide cardiopulmonary bypass services
  • Support open-heart surgery, ECMO, autotransfusion, ventricular assist devices, and intra-aortic balloon pump procedures
  • Monitor and manage patient physiology during bypass
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the VA electronic health record
  • Comply with all VA clinical policies, safety protocols, and infection control standards
