Responsibilities

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) aligned with Virginia HCBS waiver requirements and positive behavioral support frameworks.
  • Deliver services in the individual’s natural settings (residential, day, or community) to ensure generalization and relevance.
  • Provide staff training and modeling to ensure implementation fidelity of BSPs.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and assist with person-centered planning and documentation requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of behavior interventions and revise plans as needed, using objective data.
  • Ensure compliance with DBHDS regulatory expectations for documentation, consent, and plan submission.
  • Provide quarterly reviews and updates to the IDT and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in line with HIPAA standards.
  • Serve as a liaison between the agency, families, support coordinators, and community partners regarding behavior supports.
  • Participate in incident reviews involving behavioral crises or the use of emergency restraints to offer guidance and recommendations for prevention.
  • Provide consultation on staff support strategies to reduce crisis behavior and enhance quality of life.
  • Offer clinical supervision to staff pursuing RBT certification or BCBA licensure (if applicable).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related human services field.
  • Current BCBA certification in good standing.
  • At least one year of experience supporting individuals with IDD in community-based settings.
  • Experience with DBHDS licensing and Virginia waiver documentation preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation; services are primarily community-based.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible caseload.

Nice-to-haves

  • Deep understanding of Virginia Medicaid Waiver regulations for Therapeutic Consultation.
  • Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA), person-centered practices, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present behavioral data to inform interventions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, families, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to train and support DSPs to apply behavioral strategies in practical settings.
  • Commitment to ethical practices under the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and DBHDS guidelines.
  • Skilled in the use of electronic health records (EHR), data collection systems, and standard office software.
