About the position

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) position at South Whidbey School District involves assessing and evaluating student needs for behavioral support, developing behavior intervention plans, and consulting with staff and parents. The role requires collaboration with IEP teams and focuses on supporting students with extreme behaviors, promoting social skills, and ensuring compliance with special education laws.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate student needs for behavioral support.
  • Collect behavior data and conduct functional behavior assessments (FBSs).
  • Develop behavior intervention plans (BIPs) in conjunction with assessment and IEP teams.
  • Consult with and support staff working with students with extreme behaviors.
  • Respond to behavioral crises and instruct students in social skills and self-regulation.
  • Act as a resource for staff, parents, and the community.
  • Select, administer, and interpret emotional and behavioral assessments.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with staff and parents.
  • Compile written behavioral reports as needed.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and staff on individual student needs and progress.
  • Serve as a resource to school staff in developing behavioral interventions.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings as needed.
  • Maintain records/logs/reports to assure compliance with state and federal rules.
  • Observe and provide support to registered behavior technicians (RBTs).
  • Collaborate with student support advocates and counselors.
  • Work directly with support services personnel and parents on IEPs.
  • Consult with principal and staff on behavior management and curriculum design.
  • Participate in in-service training and program development activities.

Requirements

  • Valid BCBA certification preferred.
  • Experience working with students with maladaptive behaviors required.
  • Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification or special education teacher certification.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license required.
  • Fingerprinting and satisfactory background clearance required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in writing skills.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
