About The Position

Equitas Academy prepares students for college, careers, and life pursuits, and inspires them to be champions of equity. We currently serve over 2,000 students and four elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles. Equitas Academy seeks a mission-driven Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to strengthen and unify network-wide behavior systems across seven TK–12 schools. This role serves as both a technical expert and capacity builder, partnering with teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and school and network leaders to implement proactive, function-based, and culturally responsive behavior supports. In collaboration with network and school leaders, the BCBA supports the development and execution of Equitas’s equity-centered MTSS/PBIS framework. The BCBA reports to the Director of Student Well-Being & Advocacy. This is a grant-funded position with an anticipated duration of one academic year.

Requirements

  • Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification
  • Master’s degree in behavior analysis, psychology, education, or related field
  • Experience supporting school-based MTSS/PBIS systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in FBAs and BIPs
  • Experience coaching adults in educational settings
  • Strong data analysis and progress monitoring skills
  • Commitment to equity-centered and culturally responsive practices
  • A strong belief that all students can succeed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in charter or urban school settings
  • Demonstrated experience and success working with students in low-income communities
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Student-Level Behavioral Support (35%) Model de-escalation and Tier 1 behavioral support strategies within the classroom
  • Guide development of function-based BIPs
  • Support complex case consultation in partnership with school psychologists
  • Provide crisis-prevention planning support
  • Coordinate with NPAs for direct intensive services when needed
  • Coaching and Professional Development (30%) Provide high-leverage coaching cycles to school leaders and relevant school based staff
  • Develop turnkey onboarding modules for sustainability
  • Facilitate professional learning communities focused on behavior data and problem-solving
  • Coaching and professional development for MTSS/PBIS implementation for school staff in the following areas: proactive classroom management, function-based thinking, de-escalation and regulation strategies, culturally responsive behavior supports
  • Network Systems Capacity Building for Behavior Supports (20%) Serve as the lead technical expert in applied behavior analysis across the Equitas network
  • Partner with network and school leaders to implement a unified, equity-centered behavior framework
  • Support the development of durable tools (fidelity checks, expectation matrices, coaching tools, etc.) to sustain the work beyond the grant period
  • Data, Progress Monitoring & Reporting (10%) Monitor network behavior trends
  • Track PBIS fidelity across sites
  • Review COST and referral patterns
  • Report progress toward grant outcomes
  • Support leaders in using data for decision-making
  • Equity & Family Partnership (5%) Ensure behavior systems reflect culturally and linguistically responsive practices
  • Partner with families in behavior plan development and progress monitoring
  • Coach staff to reduce bias in behavior response and disciplinary practices
  • Promote environments that foster belonging, safety, and student dignity
