About The Position

The BMV Clerical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). This position involves assisting the Program Director in achieving agency performance metrics, adhering to BMV policies, and implementing process improvements. The role focuses on enhancing efficiency and resolving conflicts related to Driver Education and Driver Safety Programs, ensuring timely and accurate service delivery to the public.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of clerical experience in a similar role.
  • Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, case management, and database tools.
  • Ability to work with sensitive documents and information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to provide effective and professional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the daily operations of the organization by performing general office tasks.
  • Communicates with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions and disseminate information.
  • Reviews files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.
  • Types forms, correspondence, memos, and other materials.
  • Maintains filing systems for efficient recordkeeping and easy retrieval.
  • Checks emails, sends faxes, makes copies, and updates computer databases.
  • Answers telephones, provides information to callers, takes messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.
  • Trains other staff members to perform work activities, such as using computer applications.
  • Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.
