The BMET II (Biomedical Equipment Technician) performs repair, preventive maintenance and calibration of medical equipment. Troubleshoots electronic circuits under minimum supervision; evaluates and resolves operational problems involving medical equipment and clinical networked systems at the request of clinical staff and department management; completes and records all required maintenance documentation; serves in on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts, calibrates, lubricates, performs operational verification, tests electrical safety, and other tasks to ensure efficient performance and safety of complex medical equipment.
  • Maintains an accurate and complete inventory of medical devices and systems in assigned areas.
  • Communicates clearly with users in patient care areas during rounds or while investigating reported malfunctions. Provides impromptu technical in-services to clinical staff when needed.
  • Analyzes serviceability, reliability, and technical aspects of equipment.
  • Schedules and documents work performed as directed by the department.
  • Using Engineering methodology transfers working knowledge and understanding of electronic circuitry and medical applications from one type of instrumentation to another.
  • Reviews and/or orders parts and materials to ensure the right items are ordered at the right time from the most effective source and that prudent stock levels are maintained.
