About The Position

The Blow Out and Flattening Operator shall operate and assist in the functions of flushing debris from tube and perform flattening testing on pipe material for the continuous operation in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift. Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and hand-held measurement devices.
  • Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time and weekends when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with operating automated equipment preferred.
  • One year of experience of 25-ton overhead crane operation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and flushing operation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Make sure tube is free of debris.
  • This position will be a back-up for the 25 Ton Crane, Cut-Off Operator and Straightener Operator.
  • Maintain a good machinery condition by observing machine operations; detecting machinery malfunctions and make required corrections. Communicate to Supervisor when necessary.
  • Ensure that blow out machinery is working efficiently and blows adequate amount of water for flushing.
  • Ensure that the pipes being cut for flattening test are properly marked.
  • Break off extended scarf from the tube once its kicked off the run-out conveyor
  • Check the conformity of OD and ID for each tube, place non-conforming tubes on the prove-up table, and communicate to the mill operator about the condition of the pipe.
  • Assist the Cut-Off Operator and inform of what direction to move the pipe when it is crooked.
  • Communicate with crew to achieve a quality product.
  • Communicating to Supervisor any problems with material and equipment.
  • Responsible for all mechanical testing of material that is processed by BMP to ensure conformity to API/Customer specifications.
  • Responsible for obtaining his/her sample for testing.
  • Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
  • Employee must follow the 5S implementation procedure.
