About The Position

The Racing Division of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire a Seasonal Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian. Under the direction of the Chief Commission Veterinarian, this position is responsible for maintaining relevant Commission paperwork and eligibility lists; and supervising the Testing Area. Commission Blood Gas Testing Veterinarians have an indispensable role in ensuring that the quality and integrity of racing in the Commonwealth remains high. The anticipated dates of service are April through November. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Current licensure with Massachusetts Board of Registration in Veterinary Medicine or willingness and ability to become licensed prior to beginning work
  • Previous experience working with horses, preferably in a regulatory setting
  • The successful candidate must pass an extensive background check conducted by the Massachusetts State Police. It includes a full credit check, CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), fingerprinting, drug test, reference checks, review of IRS Income Tax Transcripts for the last four years, and a Certificate of Good Standing from the Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue (DOR).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain relevant Commission paperwork.
  • Collect pre-race blood samples from race horses.
  • Ensure that each sample is properly sealed immediately in the presence of the testing assistant and trainer’s representative.
  • Ensure that all samples are properly secured and that all documentation is complete and provides continuity of evidence.
  • Monitor activities of occupational licensees for compliance with 205 CMR 3.00 or 4.00.
  • Perform any other duties that the Chief Commission Veterinarian may assign.
