The Blood Component Laboratory Technician (2nd Shift) position supports the Blood Center by manufacturing a safe supply of blood and blood components to be used in our community hospitals. The anticipated hourly wage starts at $17.00/hr and is commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required with an associate's degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience preferred working in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a federally regulated environment (FDA/CLIA)
  • Must possess basic computer skills, strong attention to detail, critical thinking abilities, and the capability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening) to engage with employees of all backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities to meet the needs of the blood center.
  • This position requires the ability to lift 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and perform small and concise movements.
  • The Component Laboratory Technician works with blood products on a daily basis, exposure to potential biohazardous substances is high.

Nice To Haves

  • A background in healthcare is preferred with experience handling and processing blood specimens, labeling, preparing, and transporting specimens for testing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks including but not limited to manufacturing, quality control, and handling and managing inventory of blood products.
  • Conducts Moderate Complexity testing in compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) requirements for bacterial sampling. This includes specimen processing, test performance, and accurate reporting of test results.
  • Maintains laboratory records, quality control policies, and follows established policies and procedures.
  • Identifies errors in the manufacturing of blood products that may adversely affect product quality, safety, or purity and apply corrective actions as necessary.
  • Reviews testing records for accuracy and completion.
  • Communicates clearly with internal department and externally with other departments and stakeholders.
