About The Position

Bloodworks is a national leader in transfusion medicine, serving over 90 hospitals in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. The Associate Blood Collection Specialist (Phlebotomist) will perform whole blood procedures from blood donors, ensuring quality standards and the safety of the blood supply. This position offers 8 weeks of on-the-job paid training and opportunities for career advancement to higher levels within the organization.

Requirements

  • High School education or GED equivalent required
  • One year of strong customer service work experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License in the State of residence with an acceptable driving record for at least 2.5 years
  • Ability to fulfill Washington State Health Care Assistant Certification (category A at a minimum) requirements
  • Ability to attend an 8-week training program
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow SOP and have strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Previous healthcare and blood banking experience
  • Additional healthcare-related certifications

Responsibilities

  • Screening and taking vital signs of potential donors/patients and evaluating their eligibility following Bloodworks' policies/procedures
  • Answering donor questions to ensure they are giving informed consent to donation and blood testing
  • Performing donor identification and properly labeling blood components for venipunctures for whole blood and test tubes
  • Performing whole blood collection procedures on donors
  • Monitoring/caring for donors with adverse reactions to the donation process
  • Sealing blood units and preparing blood component shipment
  • Following universal precautions and bio-hazard safety standards for handling blood
  • Properly documenting and performing quality controls to uphold Bloodworks and FDA standards to maintain the safety of the blood supply
  • Interacting with team members and donors in a knowledgeable and professional manner
