The Blast Foreman at Eagle Railcar Services is responsible for setting up, operating, and tending to sand blast equipment to prepare railcar surfaces for coating. This role involves supervising the safe and proper operation of equipment, ensuring adherence to blasting procedures, specifications, and standards. The Blast Foreman will also train blasting personnel in sand blast operations and department policies, addressing any questions related to the blast booth and processes. Additionally, the position requires performing blasting inspections and ensuring compliance with surface preparation specifications using visual comparison charts and SSPC-SP standards. In this role, the Blast Foreman will implement training on various cleaning procedures and conformance policies, including the use of Testex Press-O-Film Replica Tape, Micrometer, Keane-Tator Surface Profile comparator, and needle-press gauge. The foreman will notify supervisors of any needed repairs and observe the operation of equipment to ensure continuity of flow, safety, and efficient operation while detecting malfunctions. Responsibilities also include cleaning, adjusting, and maintaining equipment using hand tools, reading work orders to determine production specifications, and rejecting defective products while readjusting equipment to eliminate issues. The Blast Foreman will examine materials and products visually or manually to ensure they meet established standards, dislodge and clear jammed materials from machinery, and transfer materials between work areas using moving equipment and hand tools. The role requires moving controls to start, stop, or adjust machinery that processes materials, tending to accessory equipment such as pumps and conveyors, and setting mill gauges to specified fineness of grind. The foreman will also record operational data, weigh or measure materials at specified intervals, and test samples to ensure compliance with specifications. This position demands a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity, along with effective communication skills and the ability to lead others in an industrial setting.
