About The Position

The Field Service Blader-Welder I is responsible for setting up and operating welding equipment for SMAW, GTAW, Plasma, and SAW welding methods. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to perform tasks accurately. The position also includes removing and replacing steam turbine blades and restoring steam turbine diaphragms to blueprint specifications, with a primary focus on the repair and maintenance of steam and gas turbine components. This role requires extensive travel and the ability to obtain and maintain welding certifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant welding or turbine service experience, or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, technical drawings, and blueprints.
  • Strong mathematical and reasoning skills to perform technical calculations.
  • Proficiency with computer tools such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, and technical drawing software.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport required.
  • Ability to travel at least 70%.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate welding equipment for SAW, GTAW, SMAW, and Plasma welding methods.
  • Set up and operate portable welding equipment for field applications.
  • Restore steam turbine diaphragms to blueprint specifications.
  • Remove and replace steam turbine blades (rotating and stationary), including tenon peening and shroud assembly.
  • Perform air baffle modification and replacement.
  • Perform compressor hook fit measurements and repairs.
  • Operate machines and monitor displays to detect malfunctions.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as OD/ID micrometers, dial indicators, and calipers.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Clean and maintain machines, tools, and work areas; perform preventive maintenance as assigned.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Travel extensively (at least 70%) via land and/or air to customer sites.
  • Access secure facilities, including nuclear plants, as required.
  • Obtain and maintain required welding certifications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
