The Blade Technician – Wind Energy is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of wind turbine blades to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of renewable energy assets. This position requires a strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work at heights in varying environmental conditions. The Blade Technician plays a critical role in maximizing turbine efficiency and minimizing downtime across multiple project sites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in wind turbine blade repair or composite repair in a lead capacity
  • Strong understanding of composite materials, blade repair methods, and industry best practices
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, repair procedures, and work instructions
  • Comfortable working at heights of 300+ feet and in confined spaces
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification preferred
  • IRATA or SPRAT rope access certification, Level I or higher, preferred; willingness to obtain may be considered
  • GWO certifications preferred, including Working at Heights, First Aid, Fire Awareness, and Manual Handling

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of wind turbine blades using rope access, suspended platforms, or ground-based methods
  • Identify and assess blade damage, including cracks, erosion, lightning strikes, and structural defects
  • Execute composite repairs, including fiberglass and epoxy work, in accordance with OEM specifications and company quality standards
  • Perform leading-edge protection (LEP) applications and blade coating repairs as required
  • Complete detailed documentation of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities accurately and timely
  • Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, fall protection systems, and rope access gear
  • Support preventative maintenance programs designed to extend blade life cycles and improve turbine reliability
  • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and site leadership to prioritize and complete work efficiently
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety requirements, and applicable industry regulations
  • Travel to various wind farm locations as required to support project and operational needs
