About The Position

The BlackOak Staff Technician is responsible for coordinating and executing the set-up and strike of events for BlackOak Technical Productions at all levels. The Staff Technician will work closely with the Producers, Project Coordinators, Event Directors, event planners and venues to prepare and execute all aspects of events. The Staff Technician completes tasks independently and utilizes knowledge and experience to produce the assigned event. The Staff Technician reports to and receives direction from the Production Team Manager. Requirements

  • Understands the basics of technical elements including: Lighting, Audio, Video, and Staging.
  • Good knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment that may include: hammer, screwdriver, hand drill, tape measure, dollies, lifts, and 8 foot and 12 foot ladders.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to include evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend and reach during entire work shift.
  • Able to stand and/or walk 100% of the work shift.
  • Ability to work with hands and arms during entire shift.
  • Must be able to move and climb ladders without accommodation.
  • Ability to work in high lift.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull 30-40 lbs. throughout the shift. Occasionally may move up to and over 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to handle fragile items safely.
  • Required to move throughout venue throughout the work shift.
  • Must have 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Must be able to tolerate cold, heat and humid conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate to loud noise.
  • 1 years of production experience preferred, preferably in an event or shop setting.
  • Basic knowledge of lighting, audio, video, staging and rigging equipment preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of warehouse operations preferred.
  • Comfortable working from a computer based inventory system.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works well under pressure with a proven ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced setting, and meet deadlines and goals.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including early late and weekend hours.
  • Good knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment that may include: electrical wire, electrical testers, fuses, pliers, screwdriver, hand drill, tape measure, dollies, high lift, and 8 foot, 12 and 14 foot ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish a plus.
  • Bachelors Degree in theatrical production or related field a plus.
  • Knowledge of event venues a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Represents BlackOak as the onsite contact person for Clients, Vendors, and other 3rd parties.
  • Communicates professionally with all levels of individuals in an organization.
  • Follows the directions of the Client, Producer, or Lead to the best of their ability.
  • Reviews all notes, pull sheets, plots, and technical formulas pertaining to the event.
  • Works in shop prepping equipment for events
  • Manages time on-site and ensures the setup is completed properly and in a timely fashion.
  • May drive company vehicles for pickups and drop-offs of gear
  • Follows proper procedures and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Works with the Producer and Event Director to address last-minute changes.
  • Works on all aspects of event installation as necessary including décor as needed.
  • Completes all Human Resources and Payroll tasks and notifications through the Employee Self Service Online Portal on a weekly basis, as directed and within established timelines.
  • Complies with all department and company safety guidelines, procedures, and rules.
  • Ensures that staff follows all company and departmental safety guidelines, procedures and rules.
  • Completes all safety training as directed and within established timelines.
  • May perform other duties as required including shop assistance
