About The Position

The Role As the BIW Integration Engineering Group Manager, you will lead the Global Body ME Material Integration Engineering team responsible for advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, and cross commodity integration across Global Body Shops. You will provide enterprise level leadership to develop and deploy next generation manufacturing solutions that enhance quality, throughput, safety, and competitiveness. This role is both strategic and highly technical — guiding innovation pipelines, setting global standards, and ensuring that new technologies and processes are scalable across GM’s global manufacturing footprint. You will foster strong partnerships with global centers, cross functional ME teams, suppliers, and program teams to deliver robust, production ready solutions that modernize Body Shop operations and position GM for long-term success. This role could require up to 30% Travel within North America (Includes Canada and Mexico) What You’ll Do Leadership & Strategy Lead the Global Body ME Material Integration Engineering team responsible for automation, advanced manufacturing technologies, and cross-commodity integration. Develop long-term strategies and technology roadmaps aligned with enterprise manufacturing objectives. Set group goals, establish performance expectations, and develop long-range plans to improve processes and manufacturing capabilities. Represent Body ME in senior level forums and drive alignment with GA, GPS, ME, ARC, Purchasing, and Vertical teams. Technology Development & Deployment Identify, evaluate, and industrialize advanced concepts including automation, robotics, computer vision, AMRs, digital tools, and advanced joining technologies. Oversee refinement of prototypes into scalable, plant-ready manufacturing solutions (e.g., Container of the Future, advanced kitting, RFID applications). Guide global standards, best practices, and process documentation to ensure consistency across regions and programs. Cross Functional Integration Partner with global centers, suppliers, program teams, and cross functional stakeholders to ensure manufacturing technology roadmaps meet program needs. Lead workshops, technical working sessions, and alignment forums to synthesize information, solve enterprise challenges, and drive execution. Maintain ongoing engagement with outside teams to ensure coordinated implementation and effective issue resolution. Team Development & Performance Mentor, coach, and develop team members to build technical capability, enterprise thinking, and cross functional influence. Lead staffing activities: interviewing, selecting, developing, and evaluating employees. Promote collaboration, knowledge transfer, and a strong team culture within ME. Operational Excellence Evaluate, refine, and implement improved manufacturing processes, integration frameworks, and engineering standards. Provide technical support to Body ME and plant organizations to maintain strong manufacturing performance. Ensure ongoing compliance with safety practices, housekeeping requirements, and corporate control systems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience working with Autonomous Mobile Equipment (AME) supporting complex manufacturing environments, with demonstrated technical depth and/or leadership responsibility.
  • 3+ years of people leadership or project leadership experience, including driving cross‑functional deliverables, setting priorities, and ensuring execution across technical teams.
  • Deep understanding of automotive manufacturing systems across Body, Stamping, and Material Flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate emerging technologies and assess feasibility, scalability, ROI, and enterprise deployment potential.
  • Strong capability in establishing and improving engineering standards, process controls, and documentation structures.
  • Proven record of leading complex, largescale initiatives with minimal oversight in fast-moving environments.
  • Ability to synthesize complex cross functional information and build alignment across global stakeholders.
  • Skilled presenter and facilitator, capable of leading enterprise workshops and representing ME in senior leadership forums.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to anticipate risks, drive closure, and deliver results despite ambiguity.
  • Exceptional relationship building and influence skills, including the ability to rebuild trust and drive progress across organizations.
