About The Position

The Bistro Associate will greet customers, learn about their preferences, answer questions, recommend menu items, and prepare and serve beverages. You will also utilize proper equipment and ingredients, and handle basic cleaning duties. To succeed as a Bistro Associate, you should have a neat appearance and engaging, friendly personality. You should be efficient, observant, knowledgeable, and personable.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent. Additional education, training, certificates, or experience may be required
  • Positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Strong task and time management abilities
  • Eye for detail and understanding of equipment, tools and techniques
  • Ability to interpret and explain menu, refer or answer questions, coordinate meal service process and understand requests
  • Ability to communicate with, understand, empathize with, work with, and be tolerant of residents, families, visitors, peers, supervisors, and subordinates
  • Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time. Must be able to stand and walk 90% of the workday
  • Ability to stoop, bend and stretch frequently
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently
  • Must be able to see, hear, read, write, speak English

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming customers, reading and listening to people to determine beverage preferences, making recommendations, and taking drink orders.
  • Preparing beverages on the menu following recipes/instructions given.
  • Serve beverages and prepared food products.
  • Taking inventory and ordering supplies to ensure bistro or juice bar is well-stocked.
  • Adhering to all food safety and quality regulations.
  • Maintaining a clean work and dining area by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.
  • Handling credit/debit card transactions and ensuring charges are accurate.
  • Records meal checks, reservations and additional charges. Complete knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Confers with the Dining Services Director and the Dining Services Supervisor regarding dining room status.
  • Confers with Executive Chef and Dining Services Director regarding any food, staffing or service issues.
  • Reports damage on broken equipment to the Dining Services Director.
  • Waits tables and provides beverage services as needed.
  • Participates in cost control measures.
  • Participates in food or beverage inventories as needed.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Other duties will be assigned as needed.
