This is a part-time Teaching Assistant (TA) position for the BIS 471 and 472 courses. Successful candidates will meet with the instructors as needed and assist with activities such as: Designing, and testing computer-networking and cybersecurity related lab exercises Editing documents and videos, and recording videos of lab walk-throughs. Conducting lab help sessions. Reviewing and editing content on Canvas course site. Grading and completing related data entry tasks. Transcribing narrated PPT lectures. Making PPT slides and Canvas pages accessible. Pay rate for this position is $16.05 per hour.

  • Work one-on-one with course instructors and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Working with students seeking academic and lab help relating to BIS 471/472. (This likely involves virtual and/or in-person meetings with students).

  • have good organization, project management, and time management skills.
  • Help identify and process any academic integrity violations that may occur in the BIS 471/472 courses.
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
  • Must pursue a Business Information Systems or Computer Science major or graduate program at Oregon State University.
  • Successful candidate will have access to confidential student data. Hence, the candidate must have high integrity, strong work ethics, and must abide by OSU, College of Business, and FERPA rules.
  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
  • Experience or familiarity with technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Windows and Linux OS, Active Directory, Hyper-V, pfSense, Wireshark, and AWS.
  • Certifications and/or internships or work experience in Networking, Cybersecurity, and AWS is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the student culture at the College of Business (COB), Oregon State University is preferable.
  • Recently completed BIS 471 and/or BIS 472 courses with a B+ or higher grade in the BIS program at OSU.
