About The Position

We are seeking a flexible and detail-oriented Birth Assistant to join our team at New Traditions Midwifery. This part-time, contract position plays a crucial role in supporting our midwife and ensuring a high level of patient service during labor and delivery. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of natural childbirth and will be responsible for performing patient assessments, including vital signs and fetal heart tone assessments, while maintaining professionalism and compassion in patient interactions.

Requirements

• Current BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Training or able to obtain upon hire.
• Strong understanding of physiologic birth.
• Excellent patient assessment skills with a focus on delivering compassionate care.
• Ability to provide outstanding patient service in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Strong communication skills to interact professionally with patients and team members.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a birth assistant, doula, student nurse, LVN or RN.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient assessments by gathering manual vital signs and fetal heart tones using a handheld Doppler.
• Provide exceptional patient service to enhance comfort during labor.
• Maintain accurate records of patient interactions and treatment plans.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to support patient care initiatives.
• Utilize knowledge of medication administrations and equipment to assist in various medical procedures.
• Organize and disinfect medical supplies and equipment for efficient operation.
