This role involves working under general supervision to perform a variety of skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of water, wastewater, and biosolids facilities. Key responsibilities include compost production using biosolids and organic materials, operating heavy equipment, interacting with customers, and ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations. The technician will perform field, operational, and customer-facing duties while supporting overall facility operations.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Two or more years relevant field work experience, including demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment sufficient to safely and independently perform job duties.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Produce a compost mix using ground wood material and biosolids from the treatment plant.
  • Operate heavy equipment used to produce compost, maintain the site, and sell finished product to the general public and landscapers.
  • Provide customer service to the public, including handling cash transactions.
  • Communicate effectively with the supervisor, accounts receivable clerk, and other operators at the technical level required for the position.
  • Comply with all safety policies and participate in specialized training related to the safe operation of heavy equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulations governing the operation and maintenance of a compost and irrigation facility.
  • Compile maintenance records and coordinate, perform, and document repairs and preventative maintenance on irrigation and farm equipment.
  • Comply with all NWN Water policies, procedures, safety regulations, and grooming and uniform standards.
