The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Apprentice works alongside the Biomedical Equipment Technicians, Clinical Engineers and members of the management team for the purpose of learning various functions of the Clinical Engineering department. The BMET Apprentice may provide support functions such as inventory management or database administration. He / She may perform maintenance and repairs as necessary on any general medical equipment, working with direction and guidance from a more experienced team member, and following the Clinical Engineering policies and processes. All activities will be delivered in a manner that assures compliance with the requirements of the Medical Equipment Management Program. The BMET Apprentice will seek opportunities for further formal and informal education, to meet the requirements for advancement along the chosen career path within the Clinical Engineering department. Accept guidance and training from more experienced members of the Clinical Engineering department in a way that reflects the Franciscan mission and values while also demonstrating self-accountability for completion of his or her assigned service activities, as directed by supervisor or more experienced team members. Appropriately document equipment information and service activities within the medical equipment database to assure timely, accurate and complete service documentation and inventory management. Take action to appropriately respond to and make supervisor aware of any customer concerns, patient incidents, significant device failures or other urgent situation that may arise within the daily activities of the Clinical Engineering team. Participate in relevant technical and professional training or related activities to demonstrate progression along a career path toward increased responsibilities within the Clinical Engineering department. Actively participate in assuring the success and positive reputation of the Clinical Engineering department by willingly and competently performing any necessary service functions and/or related administrative activities. Take responsibility for identifying opportunities for improvement and making recommendations for positive changes in processes to improve the quality of service or contribute to positive patient or organizational outcomes.
