About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician at Mercyhealth is responsible for the inspection, calibration, repair, installation, and maintenance of medical equipment and instrumentation utilized in the healthcare delivery field. This role is crucial in ensuring that all medical devices function properly and safely, thereby safeguarding both patient and staff welfare. The technician will service a variety of equipment, including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, and diathermy equipment. In addition to servicing equipment, the technician will conduct safety tests to identify any electrical or mechanical hazards that could pose risks to patients or staff. They will also consult with medical or research personnel to confirm that equipment is operating correctly and safely. A key aspect of the role involves demonstrating and explaining the correct operation of equipment to medical staff, ensuring they are well-informed and capable of using the devices effectively. The technician will be proficient in utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) database, which includes entering, completing, and retrieving information related to work orders, assets, and preventive maintenance schedules. They may also be involved in modifying or developing instruments or devices as needed. Collaboration with salespersons, service technicians, or equipment manufacturers is essential to ensure the proper operation of medical equipment. The role may require participation in managing inventories and operational budgets, responding to on-call requests, and assisting with special events. Flexibility in working hours, including alternate shifts and weekends, may be necessary, and travel to various Mercyhealth locations could be required.
