About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing medical and dental equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. A key focus of this role is working with dental X-ray equipment, including panograph machines, to perform repairs, calibration, and installation. The BMET will also support a diverse range of equipment in circulation, including portable dental treatment units, sterilization systems, optometry equipment, audiometers, and other medical or dental equipment. This role works closely with clinical staff to minimize equipment downtime and supports the overall delivery of safe, effective patient care.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology
  • Experience in repairing, calibrating, and installing dental X-ray equipment, including panograph machines.
  • Technical knowledge of dental, optometry, and hearing equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Familiarity with safety, regulatory, and compliance standards (FDA, OSHA, Joint Commission, state radiation regulations).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clinical staff and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.

Nice To Haves

  • CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or equivalent certification.
  • Prior experience supporting diverse medical and dental equipment inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and calibration of medical and dental equipment, with emphasis on dental X-ray units and panograph machines.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace defective components on a wide range of biomedical and clinical equipment.
  • Install, configure, and test new devices, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment activities.
  • Ensure all equipment meets manufacturer specifications, safety regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to prioritize repairs and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users regarding proper equipment operation and care.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts, tools, and equipment supplies.
