As a Biomedical Equipment Technician supporting Rush University Medical Center through JLL's integrated facilities management services, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the medical technology that enables life-saving patient care. Working under the IUOE Local 399 collective bargaining agreement, you'll ensure that vital medical equipment—from diagnostic devices to patient monitoring systems—operates safely and reliably across one of Chicago's premier healthcare institutions. This position combines technical expertise with patient safety impact, contributing directly to JLL's mission of delivering operational excellence in critical healthcare environments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or related technical field (OR equivalent experience as recognized per union agreement)
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining biomedical equipment
  • Ability to lift and maneuver equipment weighing up to 50 pounds safely
  • Proficiency with computer systems for documentation, work order management, and maintenance tracking
  • Availability to work overnight shift (10 PM–6 AM) Monday through Friday with rotating weekend coverage
  • Authorization to work in healthcare clinical environments with potential exposure to infectious agents and medical procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in hospital clinical engineering or healthcare equipment maintenance environments
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance standards including Joint Commission and FDA medical device requirements
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) platforms
  • Experience working under collective bargaining agreements or union shop environments
  • Basic understanding of hospital infection control and patient safety protocols

Responsibilities

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance and comprehensive safety inspections on biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Diagnose technical issues, perform repairs, and calibrate medical devices to maintain optimal functionality and patient safety
  • Respond promptly to equipment service calls from clinical staff, minimizing downtime in patient care areas
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately in computerized work order systems per union and hospital protocols
  • Support equipment installations and conduct acceptance testing for new medical devices entering service
  • Participate in on-call rotation coverage as defined by union contract requirements
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, FDA, and hospital safety regulations throughout all service activities
