About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Apprentice is an entry-level position responsible for the maintenance and repair of patient care equipment in healthcare settings. This role involves working closely with clinical staff, managing service requests, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. The apprentice will receive close supervision and training to develop their skills and knowledge in biomedical equipment management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Up to 2 years of practical experience in a related field preferred.
  • CBET certification or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit self-motivation and personal relations skills to interact with clinical professionals.
  • Manage clerical needs including service reports, maintenance tracking, and inventory reports.
  • Initiate and track service requests to outside vendors as needed.
  • Assist in tracking service activities of vendors and maintain accurate equipment inventories.
  • Work independently to complete scheduled maintenance and repair calls while managing paperwork.
  • Respond to urgent service requests verbally within 15 minutes and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Perform non-invasive repairs and arrange for invasive repairs as necessary.
  • Order and track parts for repairs using approved purchasing methods.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of equipment status through schedules and inventories.
  • Control inventory by tracking all additions, deletions, and changes accurately.
  • Maintain good customer relations to ensure high satisfaction levels.
  • Keep account managers informed of service and repair statuses and customer concerns.
  • Provide user training and assist in new equipment evaluations as requested.
  • Track safety and quality issues, attending relevant committee meetings as needed.
  • Learn new maintenance skills quickly through demonstration and practice.
  • Operate and maintain test equipment to high standards, tracking all assets accurately.
  • Be available for after-hours service calls and participate in on-call rotation as required.
