Sodexo is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician III for UTMB (the University of Texas Medical Branch) located on Galveston Island in South Texas. For more than a century, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) has served the needs of Texas and Texans from its large Galveston campus, long anchored by the John Sealy Hospital. Established in 1891 as the University of Texas Medical Department, UTMB has grown from one building, 23 students and 13 faculty members to a modern health science center with campuses in Galveston, League City and Angleton, more than 3,200 students and about 900 faculty. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driver’s license record check is required.

Requirements

  • Preferably 7-10 years of experience in electronic, mechanical or electro-mechanical repair in a health care technology- HTM/ Biomed setting and basic knowledge of networking theory and substantial knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Considerable knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation and skill in testing electronic equipment as well as in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision.
  • Experience in a healthcare facility or healthcare hospital setting.
  • Experience effectively repairing, maintaining and calibrating clinical devices such as, but not limited to: Avaya/ Phillips V60 Ventilators (or other manufacturers), Dräger Anesthesia or Training (Will also provide OEM training), OR exp. preferred.
  • Minimum Education Requirement - Associate's Degree (or equivalent experience) in electronic, biomedical engineering or a discipline geared toward managing maintaining and repairing clinical equipment within a healthcare environment
  • Minimum Functional Experience - 7 years of experience in electronic, mechanical or electro-mechanical repair in a health care technology setting

Responsibilities

  • Apply formal training and hands-on experience to service a variety of clinical equipment in a healthcare setting.
  • Repair, maintain, and calibrate complex medical devices, including respiratory/ critical care equipment, ventilators, and anesthesia machines equipment experience.
  • Work within hospitals or clinical environments to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with safety standards.
  • Provide leadership by mentoring junior team members and supporting their technical development.
  • Use proactive troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff, manage time across multiple priorities, and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource, ensuring high-quality service and support for healthcare professionals.
  • Uphold patient safety and operational excellence by maintaining accurate service records and adhering to all regulatory requirements.
