About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. The position involves performing repairs on all facets of medical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used in the treatment of patients at UAMS, with minimal supervision required only on the most sophisticated equipment. Responsibilities include scheduled preventive maintenance, electrical safety inspections, software and networking updates, and providing clinical support and training to staff and students.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Biomedical Instrumentation Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Information Technology or related field.
  • Equivalent Military Training or 4 years' experience in Biomedical Equipment repairs, Electronic repairs, Information Technology or related fields.
  • For Tech II: Minimum of three years related experience and qualification for certification as a CBET, CLES, or CRES by AAMI.
  • For Tech III: Minimum of four years related experience and certification as a CBET, CLES, or CRES by AAMI.

  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to biomedical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs on medical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
  • Conducts scheduled preventive maintenance and electrical safety inspections.
  • Performs software and networking related updates and repairs.
  • Provides clinical support to end users of medical equipment.
  • Initiates purchases for parts and materials needed for repairs.
  • Performs incident investigations for safety violations.
  • Conducts initial inspections on new and rental equipment.
  • Provides pre-purchase evaluations on new medical equipment.
  • Communicates and consults with users on various matters.
  • Provides leadership to personnel and may serve as temporary site manager.
