Under general supervision of the Director of Clinical Engineering, the Biomedical Equipment Technician I (BMET I) is an entry-level technician responsible for the installation and inspection of a wide range of medical equipment and medical equipment networks. The BMET I perform inspections on new equipment, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and supports clinical staff in the safe and effective use of medical equipment. This role requires a fundamental understanding of electronics, medical technology, medical networks and troubleshooting practices. This position requires travel to and from all Atlantic Health sites. Principal Accountabilities: Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control standards, and Joint Commission and regulatory requirements Exhibits problem solving skills including testing, basic troubleshooting techniques and issue resolution. Possesses the ability to follow manufacturer's procedures for preventive maintenance inspection, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification procedures on PCs, peripherals, medical networks and general medical equipment. Exhibits a comprehensive understanding and can demonstrate the use of required hand tools, PC troubleshooting commands. Work with and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery and vendor documentation. Significant working knowledge of physiology, anatomy and medical terminology with emphasis in clinical application and troubleshooting. Develop biomedical understanding through ongoing work experience, training and education. Assume 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities. Exhibits a comprehensive understanding and can communicate the operation of devices supported. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repair, and inspection activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Participate in on-the-job training and continuing education programs to develop technical skills. Stay informed about emerging technologies and changes in medical equipment regulations .
