About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist at Robley Rex VA is responsible for maintaining medical equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role involves providing clinical and administrative support related to the lifecycle management of medical equipment, ensuring compliance with standards from various accrediting agencies and governing bodies.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Associates degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology or related field and two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or related field, or military training in biomedical equipment with two years of experience.
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level for GS-11 position.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), Net+, and A+ are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain medical equipment using established local, regional, and national policies and procedures.
  • Manage the lifecycle of medical systems such as imaging, life support, dialysis, and monitoring, including physical and network support.
  • Coordinate with facility support departments including Facilities Management, Office of Information Technology, Patient Safety, and others.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety codes and standards from regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission and FDA.
  • Document all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Load operating system and clinical application software as needed.
  • Investigate and document Repairable Medical Device recalls and safety alerts within established timeframes.
  • Provide training and education to medical technology end users and clinical staff.
