Specialists may pursue one of the following tracks:•    Technical Lead: Serves as a subject matter expert on one or more specific types of equipment, providing advanced technical support and guidance. •    Team Lead: Provides support to the operational managerial team, ensuring compliance, productivity, and effective workflow. ________________________________________Duties and Responsibilities:    Technical Lead•    Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Biomedical Equipment Technician III.•    Consistently perform routine, complex, and specialized tasks associated with installation, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of clinical equipment and systems, including life support equipment.•    Specialize in specific types or systems of clinical equipment, requiring advanced training and/or certification.•    Serve as a technical resource to clinical staff regarding patient interface issues.•    Provide guidance and mentoring to Biomedical Equipment Technicians.•    Coordinate inspection and installation of incoming equipment.•    Assist in developing specifications for equipment purchases.•    Coordinate work performed by service contractors and vendors, including maintenance, calibration, installation, and verification of service documentation.•    Conduct departmental training sessions on safe operation and maintenance of equipment.•    Independently coordinate and manage projects, both routine and complex, including communication and follow-up with construction and clinical departments.•    Maintain and service specialized medical devices •    Assist in creation and implementation of PM templates, KB articles, and competency assessments•    Act on behalf of team lead, as neededTeam Lead•    Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Technical Lead.•    Approve/disapprove PTO requests and communicate with Operations Manager.•    Monitor completion of preventive and corrective maintenance to department standards.•    Track technician productivity and assign/reassign work as necessary.•    Assign preventive maintenance actions to technicians monthly.•    Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues and improve workflow.•    Assist in performing competency assessments.•    Monitor cleanliness of workspaces and adherence to infection control procedures and PPE usage.•    Ensure accurate receipt of parts into the system and monitor adherence to parts ordering processes.•    Assist in validating inspection procedures.•    Help develop departmental training plans with the Operations Manager.•    Provide input regarding team member performance.•    Undertake other projects and duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, similar field or military equivalent.
  • Two years vocational training may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician.
  • A valid North Carolina Driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Qualify as a candidate for certification as a CBET or CLES by AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation)
  • All KSAs of a Biomedical Equipment Technician, plus:
  • Ability to coordinate complex projects and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Advanced knowledge of codes, standards, and compliance issues in Clinical Engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety precautions for clinical equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Intermediate knowledge of internet protocols and networked systems.
  • Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to provide coaching and mentoring to Level I and II technicians.
  • Significant knowledge of Duke University Health System and departmental policies and procedures.
  • All KSAs of a Technical Lead, plus:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to monitor and improve team productivity and workflow.
  • Proficiency in conducting competency assessments and developing training plans.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across departments.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with infection control and safety procedures.
  • Skill in evaluating and providing feedback on team member performance.
