About The Position

The Secondary Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school. All district employees must demonstrate regular and predictable attention to their work, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform their essential duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate.
  • Competent in required job skills and knowledge.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret all kinds of documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or the community.
  • Ability to write speeches and effectively present to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Ability to work with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.

  • Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
