Maricopa Community Colleges DistrictMesa, AZ

About The Position

Mesa Community College seeks two dynamic and passionate faculty members to teach general biology for majors at our Southern and Dobson, and Red Mountain campuses, with the flexibility and expertise to also teach anatomy & physiology. We are looking for an innovative and creative science educator dedicated to empowering a diverse and often underprepared community college student population through engaging and inclusive teaching practices for in-person and online instruction. In addition to teaching, developing and refining teaching materials, utilizing current teaching methodologies, incorporating research experiences for students into the curriculum, and providing service to the department, campus, and community are also required. The Southern and Dobson campus is one of the largest in the Maricopa Community College system, boasting extensive resources for both students and faculty, including well-developed undergraduate research opportunities. The Red Mountain campus is situated within 48ha of the Sonoran Desert that harbors endangered and protected species and has been the recipient of an international award for conservation. Participation in undergraduate research as well as broader campus conservation and sustainability initiatives are desired aspects of the two positions. The Southern and Dobson campus provides the advantage of a modern, large library facility, integrated student support, and an on site Center for Teaching and Learning. The courses at the Southern and Dobson campus include diverse majors and non majors classes reflecting the comprehensive nature of the campus. The Red Mountain campus has an allied healthcare focus, and most students taking biology classes are going into healthcare related fields and with some biology majors. Regardless of the campus, candidates must be adaptable, capable of working both independently and collaboratively, and ready to contribute to a range of interdisciplinary and institutional initiatives.
