Stantec GS, Inc. has an opportunity for a full-time Biologist/Ecologist to play an integral part in helping support our nationwide federal environmental planning programs.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and associated studies and environmental permitting for a variety of projects.
  • Planning terrestrial, avian, or aquatic habitat surveys.
  • Conducting environmental effects monitoring programs.
  • Performing botanical and wildlife surveys.
  • Conducting species at-risk surveys.
  • Assessing impacts to species from various sources.
  • Evaluating potential impacts to multiple taxa in different habitats.

Requirements

  • Must have the legal right to work in United States.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance for certain assignments.
  • Knowledge of and experience with applicable federal environmental regulations related to biological resources.
  • Demonstrated experience and strong desire for multi-disciplinary internal collaboration.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and strong verbal communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills to interact with a broad range of audiences.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project work.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety protocols.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Position requires a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology or closely related field.
  • 5 years of professional experience applying learned skills in biology.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to environmental assessments/impact statements pursuant to NEPA.
  • Experience in the regulatory review process for the biological component of NEPA projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in biology, ecology, or closely related field.
  • Experience executing terrestrial and/or marine species surveys.
  • Knowledge of and experience with GIS/GPS, resource mapping, and spatial analysis.
  • Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Experience with database management.
  • Training and experience in spatial statistics.
  • Federal recovery permits, and any other ecological certifications.
