About The Position

Parsons is seeking a highly skilled Biologist to provide scientific and technical expertise to Department of Defense (DoD) personnel regarding biological warfare agents (BWA). This role involves serving as a scientific advisor during training events and exercises, ensuring safe handling of biological agents, and providing authoritative advice on BWA detection and response. The position requires extensive laboratory experience and a strong background in biosafety and biological hazards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 10+ years of experience in laboratory settings.
• Experience with Biosafety Level (BSL) laboratories and safety practices related to infectious microorganisms.
• Knowledge of biological hazards, including their transmissibility and pathogenicity.
• Expertise in engineering controls and safety equipment used in BWA or BSL laboratories.
• Scientific and technical expertise in identifying and responding to biological threats.
• Experience with BWA detectors and detection theory.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Current Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and technical expertise to DoD personnel on prevention, protection from, response to, and recovery from biological warfare agents (BWA) threats or incidents.
• Support various DoD exercises and training events focused on BWAs.
• Plan meetings, articulate BWA-related information, respond to questions, and assist in building lab scenarios that meet training objectives.
• Provide guidance on safe handling and integration of agents into training scenarios.
• Evaluate unit safety and sampling procedures in the lab.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on biological warfare agents, their synthesis, exposure routes, signs, symptoms, and modes of transmission.
• Conduct training on the use of detection equipment and decontamination techniques for biological warfare agents.
• Provide on-site training and operational support for command-sponsored technical training and exercises.
