About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in the planning and coordination of biological activities related to wetlands management within the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Columbia, SC. The incumbent will provide direct assistance to landowners, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and leading various wetland studies and projects.

Requirements

• Must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
• One year of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, performing duties related to biological wetlands management and compliance.
• For GS-12, one year of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, including conducting field studies and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with invasive species management and endangered species compliance.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations related to wetlands.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct assistance to landowners in the determination, restoration, enhancement, and creation of wetlands, especially related to Farm Bill programs.
• Guides planners and landowners on the implementation of swamp buster rules and regulations.
• Leads the wetland compliance portion of Conservation Compliance under the Food Security Act.
• Coordinates activities in planning and conducting special wildlife, plant, or wetland studies and data gathering necessary for developing and refining standards.
• Conducts field studies, demonstrations, and trials to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of projects in meeting wetland and wildlife habitat goals.
