Stantec is seeking a Lead Biologist to join our Environmental Services Practice working within our power utility sector in the Northern California region, to provide management on our multi-discipline programs. This position includes leading desktop biological constraints reviews, and working supporting staff in completing reports, quality reviews, permit knowledge as well as maintaining key communications with the client. The position is to be based out of our Sacramento, Roseville, Chico, Redding, Nevada City, Walnut Creek, San Jose or Fresno offices and geographic alignment with other Stantec offices can be considered based on experience.   • Lead and coordinate biological desktop reviews for public and private projects supporting utility programs.
  • Provide quality control and maintain a high standard for safety on biological field reports, biological reports and memos and other desktop reviews produced by junior biological staff and subcontractors.
  • Identification and support on environmental permitting, on various projects located throughout California, and coordination of biological reports with utility clients and internal Stantec teams.
  • Support multi-disciplinary project/program teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of utility operations and maintenance projects.
  • Manage author teams to ensure they are submitting quality deliverables, on-time and on budget.
  • Support project management teams and work on the financials of dynamic projects.
  • Minimum 6+ years relevant work experience in biology.
  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities.
  • Strong reviewing skills and QA/QC skills.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing and tracking large amounts of data.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
  • Understanding of Federal and State agency requirements with special-status species on linear projects.
  • Must have good driving record and valid driver's license.
  • Master's degree in biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field a plus.
  • CPUC experience a plus.
