About the position

The Biologist II position at the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) involves conducting water quality and biological analyses for the Ecosystems and Watershed Management Department. The role requires independent work following established protocols, assisting in research project design, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The position also includes outreach responsibilities and representation of GRDA at local meetings and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze water and biological samples on GRDA waters, primarily the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers.
  • Assist management and senior biologists in the design and execution of research projects.
  • Maintain and repair field and laboratory equipment.
  • Purchase consumable items associated with testing of the rivers.
  • Record and maintain the water quality database.
  • Perform basic statistical analysis and graphing of biological and environmental data.
  • Represent GRDA at local meetings and conferences concerning water quality and aquatic ecology.
  • Provide outreach to universities, schools, and local groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or related field with coursework in limnology, aquatic ecology, genetics, and chemistry required.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience required.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license, or the ability to convert within 30 days for those with an out of state driver's license that are an Oklahoma resident.
  • Functional competency with personal computers, preferably with experience in Microsoft Office and R statistical programming.
  • Knowledge of basic statistical testing and ability to read, interpret, and apply technical papers from primary literature.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D or Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with various measures of water quality, macroinvertebrates, stream fishes, hydrology, environmental DNA, and sample collection and analysis methods.
