Tetra Tech is seeking a highly motivated entry level Biologist to join our team and support field surveys in the Great Plains and Western Mountains (CO, NE, WY, MT, and ND) and subsequent reporting. We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist who is prepared to learn and grow their experience with biological resources, natural resources, and technical writing. Prior field experience in aquatic resources (wetland and stream delineations), botany (identification of noxious and invasive vegetation and native vegetation), or wildlife (identification of birds, reptiles, mammals, and/or rare, threatened, or endangered species by sight and call) is strongly desired. This position requires ability to hike up to 5-10 miles per day through challenging terrain.

  • Supporting biological/natural resource surveys in the Great Plains and Western Mountains in CO, NE, WY, MT, and ND, or other locations as assigned.
  • Conducting multiple types of biological/natural resource surveys throughout the United States as needed for project requirements.
  • Working on several projects at one time in different phases of the project life and prioritizing work across all projects as assigned to maintain the schedule and ensure data quality.
  • Supporting writing and review of technical reports.
  • Potentially completing work/surveys outside of biological sciences (Utility Surveys, Water sampling, etc.).
  • Logistics support for large field mobilizations- assisting with equipment relocation to different field sites as needed, equipment inventory, maintenance, etc. as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience as a field biologist or related role, with a focus on aquatic resources, botany, or wildlife.
  • Detail oriented with excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS Pro, and other relevant software tools.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative work environment along with a willingness to learn and be adaptable.
  • Ability to conduct field work safely in accordance with health and safety policies and the project specific health and safety plan.
  • Excellent organization and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to take clear and accurate field notes by hand or on a tablet/smartphone.
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of assignments in time-critical situations.
  • Ability to analyze available data and draw valid, defensible conclusions.
  • Schedule must have flexibility to travel (land and/or air), at times on short notice.
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing and successfully pass a motor vehicle background check.
  • Familiarity with ESRI GIS software and applications (ArcPro, FieldMaps, Survey123) for mapping and data visualization.
  • Basic mathematical skills for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience with environmental sampling and assessment tools and methodologies.
