About The Position

The Biological Science Technician position is a temporary, full-time role within the National Park Service, focused on supporting natural resource management projects. The role involves field observations, coordinating volunteer efforts, and assisting in data management and reporting. This position is seasonal, with varying entry-on-duty periods depending on the specific park location, and is open to U.S. citizens and certain federal employees.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or a bachelor's degree in a related field, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures to collect and organize field data related to natural resource management.
  • Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software to compile and report data.
  • Ability to assist with long-term monitoring projects by following established protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • State pesticide application certification/license.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination or management.

Responsibilities

  • Make field observations of natural resource conditions.
  • Lead and/or coordinate volunteers and youth work groups in carrying out stewardship and science activities.
  • Implement established natural resource management projects using appropriate resource management equipment.
  • Assist in natural resource data entry and preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines.
  • Provide information, advice, assistance, and training to others involved in projects and research.
