Tempus is seeking a highly qualified PhD-candidate Bioinformatics Summer Associate to work with us for the summer of 2026. We are looking for people who can change the world. As a Summer Intern at Tempus, you will: Apply skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to on-the-job experiences Work on comprehensive, value-added project(s) that help enhance the fields of science and technology Collaborate with teams/colleagues in a fast-paced environment Gain professional development & build relationships with peers from across the country Anticipated Summer Project(s): Project: Work closely with a scientist in the development of a somatic copy number model of the cancer genome, including Characterization of the input data, including log-ratios and b-allele SNPs Model parameter fitting and optimization. Model output visualizations

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Ph.D. (graduation between winter of 2026 and summer of 2027) in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Computational skillsets: Python required. Coding and data analysis abilities will be assessed
  • Biology skillsets: Basic knowledge of cancer genomics required.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, via a track record of first-author conference presentations and/or journal publications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a variety of settings and media.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Google Suite and Gmail, preferred.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others in a fast-paced environment is critical.
  • Be ready to fly the plane as you’re still building it!

Nice To Haves

  • Any previous experience of copy number modeling is highly desirable.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Google Suite and Gmail, preferred.
