About The Position

We’re looking for motivated students to be part of a dynamic 11-week paid internship where you’ll work on impactful projects and gain real-world experience, all while supporting our mission to improve health and improve lives. As a Labcorp intern, you’ll be immersed in hands-on work that complements your academic background. In addition to your project work, you’ll gain valuable exposure to Labcorp’s global business, culture, and leadership through enterprise-wide learning experiences, leadership exposure, and visibility, including direct interaction with senior leaders. The internship provides an excellent opportunity for a graduate student to apply their advanced knowledge and skills in bioinformatics, computational biology, and data analysis.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program (master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python, R, Perl, or Java.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., microbiome, metagenomics, pathogen whole genome sequencing, RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq) and familiarity with bioinformatics tools like BLAST, GATK, Bowtie, and microbiome and viral genome analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large, complex datasets and derive meaningful insights.
  • Previous research experience in microbiome analysis, viral genome analysis, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with machine learning or AI applications in biology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sophisticated analysis of microbiome, bacterial, viral and pathogen genomics and transcriptomics, or proteomic datasets using state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Develop, refine, and implement algorithms for analyzing and interpreting microbiome and other genomics/transcriptomics datasets.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of bioinformatics software tools and pipelines, ensuring they meet the research needs of the team.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, providing bioinformatics expertise to ongoing research projects and studies.
  • Analyze and interpret complex biological data, preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of the latest bioinformatics methodologies and advancements, integrating new approaches into ongoing projects.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members or interns, sharing your expertise and contributing to a collaborative learning environment.
