About The Position

The Bioinformatician I integrates biology, medicine, and health-related research with advanced computational and AI-driven methods to support data-driven discovery in the Saxena lab. This role focuses on the collection, processing, and interpretation of complex biological datasets, including genomics, proteomics, and pharmacological data. The Bioinformatician I develops computational models, performs statistical and pattern-based analyses, and contributes to the understanding of biological systems through data science approaches. Bioinformatician I contributes to innovative analytical solutions, supports research pipelines, and collaborates across multidisciplinary teams to translate data into meaningful biological and clinical insights. Summary: Responsible for combining research in biology, medicine, and health-related studies with information technology and biomedical AI tools in order to collect and interpret data covering a range of fields, such as genetics, proteomics or pharmaceutics. They create mathematical models, develop dynamic simulations, and perform pattern analyses of biological systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Computational Biology required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred
  • Computational Sciences Experience 0-1 year preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure, programming languages, and computational sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability working with open-source bioinformatics software.
  • Possess strong analytical skills, including critical thinking, data modeling, problem solving, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of staff.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the analysis of biological data using bioinformatics tools and software.
  • Perform data processing, quality control, and database maintenance.
  • Collaborate with research teams to understand their data analysis needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of data analysis pipelines.
  • Conduct basic statistical analyses and data visualization.
  • Participate in the interpretation and presentation of results.
  • Working under very general supervision, the Bioinformatician I will have demonstrated independent design and innovation in one or more of the following areas of specialization: algorithm development, data analysis, quality assurance/testing, pipeline software/computing development, user interface design & report development, web-based application development, or report development.
