The Rodriguez Lab investigates how the human genome and epigenome shape the adaptive immune system, focusing on their impact on antibody responses during infections, vaccination, and autoimmunity. Leveraging large-scale biobank datasets, we explore the genetic factors underlying disease susceptibility linked to antibody genes. Our research also includes in-depth molecular and cellular analyses to uncover the genetic basis of antibody responses to pathogens. To advance this work, we develop cutting-edge bioinformatics tools, including pangenome and personalized genome analyses, moving beyond traditional reference-based approaches. These approaches are necessary due to the highly polymorphic nature (for example structural variant hotspots) of immune loci. Our research employs a diverse array of omics technologies, such as long-read sequencing (PacBio and Oxford Nanopore), short-read sequencing, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, BCR-sequencing, and ChIP-seq. We are currently seeking a bioinformatician to lead and contribute to innovative projects in this exciting field.
